The Coronation of Persephone

  • The Back Room 102 Norfolk Street New York, NY, 10002 United States (map)

Spring is here, and Persephone has ascended from the underworld. As the trees come into full bloom, so does she. That deserves a coronation, don’t you think? We certainly do. Join the Poetry Brothel on May 15th as we give our springtime goddess her due. We promise a vaudevillian night that will immerse you in poetry, music, burlesque, and springtime magic. Pomegranate seeds not included!

Featuring: Bambi, Sabina Crowley, Dolce, Violet Envy, Fallen Grace, Persephone James, Jill,25, Mandatory Jane, Monah Mayhem, Mr. Words, Jack Barrow, Selina Katerina, our M.C. Venatrix, and more!

ABOUT THE POETRY BROTHEL

Welcome to a unique and interactive poetry event that takes poetry outside classrooms and lecture halls and places it in the lush interiors of a bordello. The Madame presents a rotating cast of poets, each operating within a carefully crafted character, who impart their work in public readings, spontaneous eruptions of poetry, and most distinctly, as purveyors of private poetry readings on beds, chaise lounges and in private rooms. Of course, any true bordello needs a good cover; ours is a literary cabaret featuring burlesque, live music, vaudeville, aerials, visual art, magic, mysticism, with newly integrated themes, performances and installations at each event.

The Poetry Brothel is brought to you by The Poetry Society of New York, a 501(c)3 performing arts non-profit and GLITS, a community organization that fights for the health, rights, and safety of transgender sex workers.
